Privacy Policy
Cling is a bookmark manager. We built it to help you save and organize pages from the web. This policy explains what data we collect, why we collect it, and what we do with it. We've tried to write it in plain English.
What we collect
| Data | Where | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Email address | Sign-up form | Authentication |
| Password | Sign-up form | Handled by Supabase Auth — hashed, never stored by us |
| Page URL + title | Web app & extension | Saving bookmarks — this is the core of what Cling does |
| Page metadata | Fetched automatically | Preview image, description, article details, GitHub stats, etc. |
| Auth session token | chrome.storage.local (extension) | Staying logged in between sessions |
We only see URLs you explicitly choose to save. We don't track your browsing history, read anything from tabs you don't interact with, or collect your name, phone number, location, or payment information.
How we use it
Your data is used to run Cling and nothing else. Specifically: to save and display your bookmarks, to fetch metadata that makes those bookmarks more useful, and to keep you logged in across sessions. We don't use it for advertising, profiling, or anything unrelated to the product.
Third parties we work with
We don't sell your data. We use a small number of service providers to run Cling:
| Data | Where | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Supabase | supabase.com | Database and authentication — your bookmarks and account live here |
| Anthropic | anthropic.com | Receives the URL and title of pages you save to suggest tags |
| Microlink | microlink.io | Receives URLs to fetch page metadata and preview images |
These are processors, not buyers. They handle your data only as needed to run the product, under their own privacy policies.
Data retention
Your bookmarks and account data are kept until you delete them or close your account. When you delete a bookmark, it's gone. When you delete your account, we remove all personal information — your email, auth credentials, folders, and tags — immediately. Your saved bookmark URLs are anonymized (disconnected from your identity) and kept in our database, inaccessible to anyone.
Deleting your account
You can delete your account at any time from the Profile section in the dashboard. Here's exactly what happens:
- Your email, password, name, and avatar are permanently deleted.
- Your folders and tags are permanently deleted.
- Your saved bookmark URLs are kept in our database but fully anonymized — stripped of any link to you. No one can access or query them.
This happens instantly when you confirm. There is no waiting period. If you'd prefer we delete the bookmark data too, email us and we'll take care of it.
Security
All data is encrypted in transit over HTTPS. Our database uses row-level security so your data is isolated from other users at the database layer. Auth tokens are short-lived and automatically rotated. No system is perfectly secure — if you find a vulnerability, please email us rather than posting it publicly.
Changes to this policy
If we make meaningful changes to what we collect or how we use it, we'll update the date at the top of this page. We won't make changes that reduce your privacy without telling you first.
